Benefits of Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds help build the body and have a grounding effect. However, those on a weight loss program should eat these sparingly. If you are trying to gain weight, I suggest making nuts a frequent addition to your diet. Nuts are rich in various nutrients, minerals and vitamins. Nuts and seeds are also a great source of high quality fatty acids. Let’s look at some examples and few benefits:
Almonds: High in calcium and fiber. Promote healthy cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health
Cashews: High in calories and protein. They are rich in “heart-friendly” monounsaturated-fatty acids
Pecans: High iron and other vitamins and minerals. They are the most antioxidant-rich tree nut
Pine Nuts: They are an excellent source of energy. These little nuts fight free radicals and are another good source of iron
Walnuts: Used to strengthen kidney and lungs. They are known as brain food
Pumpkin Seeds: Extremely high in protein and EFA’s, rich in zinc, iron and calcium
Sesame Seeds: Loaded with essential minerals such as manganese, copper, iron, phosphorus and calcium. Zinc in sesame seeds promotes bone health
Sunflower Seeds: Provide a good source of selenium, magnesium, vitamin E and copper. They also have a very high oil content. A handful of sunflower seeds will take care of your hunger making them a great snack
