Superfoods: Berries
Blueberries – Native to North America, these little purple berries are powerful! They contain vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese, and help with inflammation. Studies are linking blueberries with helping fight macular degenration, reducing risk factors for metabolic syndrome, lowering cholesterol, blood lipids and many other positive effects.
Gogi Berries – Native to China, these berries have a slight sweet and sour taste and are full of antioxidants and rich in vitamin A. Traditional Chinese medical practitioners have use these berries to help protect the liver, boost immune functions, improve circulation and improve eyesight.
Inca Berries – These berries are found in South America and are packed with fiber and have more antioxidants than Gogi berries. They contain a wide range of nutrients including potassium, phosphorus, and vitamin C.
Pomegranate – One of the oldest known fruits, the pomegranate is a native of Persia. There are a wide range of benefits reported from all parts of the fruit. Studies have shown it helps with reducing blood pressure, increasing testosterone, inhibiting viral infections and antibacterial effects against plaque. This is nature’s wonder drug.
Sour Cherries -Native to Europe and Southwest Asia, sour cherries have been useful in alleviating sleep problems due to its high melatonin content. There are also reports of it helping with inflammation, pain management which is on par with aspirin, and cancer protection. This berry is loaded with powerful class of antioxidants, carotene, boron, and vitamin C.
Camu Camu Berry – Found in the Peru and Brazil, this berry has an extraordinarily high vitamin C content. It also has an amino acids, potassium, gallic acid, and multiple antioxidants.
Acai Berry – We saved possibly the best for last. Found in Brazil where it’s call the Beauty Berry, Acai is a super absorber of free radicals, hundreds of times higher than average fruits like apples and bananas. Acai has all of the vitamins and minerals found in most fruits but also chemical compounds that have never been seen before. These berries have protein and all of the good Omega fats that you need.
